Our story ...
It was 1919. The “War to end all wars” was over, and this was the time many soldiers decided to relinquish their military careers. One such was Colonel Gavin Jones. He and his wife bought a small horticultural property in Letchworth and began to devote themselves to the cultivation of alpine plants. What began as a simple hobby soon developed into a thriving business and is now one of Britain’s leading landscaping and grounds maintenance enterprises.
Through the 20′s and 30′s Gavin Jones acquired a reputation for high-quality landscaping and undertook many large and prestigious projects in the noble houses and parklands around the Home Counties. Working in both the public and private sectors, Gavin Jones Landscape continued to expand its activities, establishing an enviable reputation for undertaking every kind of landscaping project, and began its successful displays at the Chelsea Flower Show.
As a new environmental awareness promoted the growth and importance of the commercial landscape industry, and with a change of ownership in 1988, the company acquired a new management team who extended operations to include domestic gardens – design, landscape and maintenance. Trading under the title “Squires Landscape” it was successful in gaining many Gold and Silver RHS awards at both Chelsea and Hampton Court flower shows.
The Grounds Maintenance division evolved some years later and today, despite adding significantly to its portfolio of work, is proud to still be engaged on its very first contract at Fortescue Park. Over time additional services have been added – to include landscape construction, interior plant installation and maintenance, and specialist arboricultural works .
In 2001 the company purchased the Woburn Hill Nursery site near Weybridge.
Today the Gavin Jones organisation is active Nationwide. We are BSI certificated, and are proud holders of the Royal Warrant, ensuring we maintain the highest standards of quality control at all times. Wherever open-space works are required – from huge commercial landscaping projects such as the Olympic park, to maintenance of top quality sports facilities for the MOD; from Private Estate management to the redesign and replanting of domestic gardens – the Gavin Jones Group provides creative, economic and successful solutions.
Gavin Jones became part of the Nurture Landscapes Group in February 2018, bringing together two leading privately owned companies that share the same passion for delivering a high quality service and building long term relationships with clients.
