BALI 2016 AWARD Winner

Regeneration Scheme | Under £500k | Kennington Park Flower Garden

‘Kennington Park is situated in the London Borough of Lambeth and was the first public park in South London which was opened in 1854. The park has grown and developed over the years and the flower garden was constructed in the 1930’s in an Arts & Crafts design.

The Friends of Kennington Park were founded in 2002 to support this valuable green space and to identify restoration projects within the park that require attention. In 2012 500k was successfully raised through the support of the Heritage Lottery Fund, London Borough of Lambeth and The Friends of Kennington Park to restore the flower garden. The garden restoration proposals were designed by LUC Landscape Architects and tendered during late 2014 with Huntley Cartwright QS preparing the tender documents. Gavin Jones were successful in being awarded the project.

Work commenced early 2015 and completed in the early summer of the same year. The restoration works consisted of relaying the Yorkstone crazy paving, conversion of the shelter, renewal/repair of the pergolas, reconstruction of the lily pond, extensive new planting, custom built seating and litter bins.’
