Gavin Jones’ Nature Trail at Bluewater Shopping Centre – Flying the flag as one of the UK’s very best green spaces
A record number of parks and green spaces collect the Green Flag Award this year, amongst them Gavin Jones Ltd proudly involved at Bluewater, Europe’s leading retail and leisure destination.
The Bluewater Nature Trail in Kent has been recognised by the Green Flag Award Scheme as one of the very best in the world.
Gavin Jones Ltd have been dedicated to protecting the natural environment around Bluewater since maintaining the grounds from 2004. The site is surrounded by 50 acres of scenic, landscaped parkland. The Mosaic Tunnel leads to one of the site’s biggest lakes, which is home to an array of wildlife. From here you can follow the footpaths, cycle routes and nature trail while enjoying picnic and play areas.
The Gavin Jones scope at Bluewater covers maintenance of beds and borders, trimming of hedges, sight lines, herbicide applications to hard and soft surfaces and leaf clearance. Four hectares of wildflower meadows and 1 million trees on site are cared for and maintained. Extensive grass cutting around the estate includes boulevards, roundabouts, central reservations and amphitheatre. Each of the seven lakes and their wildlife are actively monitored to ensure the environment is protected from pollution and disturbance.
The open green space/nature trail is among a record-breaking 1,797 UK parks and green spaces that will today receive a prestigious Green Flag Award – the mark of a quality park or green space. This international award, now into its third decade, is a sign to the public that the space boasts the highest possible environmental standards, is beautifully maintained and has excellent visitor facilities.
Scott Painter from Gavin Jones said: “We are absolutely delighted to receive a Green Flag Award for 2017/18 the whole team have been working hard to achieve this all year – it’s a true credit to the efforts on site. We know how much quality green spaces matter to residents and guests, and this award celebrates the dedication that goes into maintaining Bluewater (Nature Trail) to such a high standard.”
International Green Flag Award scheme manager Paul Todd said: “We are delighted to be celebrating another record-breaking year for the Green Flag Award scheme. Each flag is a celebration of the thousands of staff and volunteers who work tirelessly to maintain the high standards demanded by the Green Flag Award. The success of the scheme, especially in these challenging times, demonstrates just how much parks matter to people.”
