Supporting the Governments Childhood Obesity Plan
On Friday 6th October Clarendon Junior School in Tidworth opened a new ‘exercise pathway’, amid growing concern nationally about the increasing number of youngsters who are overweight and obese.
The idea of the path is to support the government’s national ‘Childhood Obesity Plan’ which encourages schools to help pupils improve their overall health and wellbeing.
The Gavin Jones team worked throughout the summer holidays to help create a hard-standing pathway which stretched along the perimeter of the playing field.
“Watching the children run around the path at the opening was fantastic, all the children were enjoying it! The newly installed path goes around a grass field which will enable the children to exercise all year round, previously they couldn’t use the field in poor weather conditions. It was important to both Matthew and I that we support the Childhood Obesity Plan, to see the children’s faces was very rewarding.” – Jonathan, GJ Site Supervisor
Allan Thomson, Chief Executive of Aspire Defence Limited, added by saying:
“As an established company working to support the Army in Tidworth, we were delighted to have an opportunity to help a school on our doorstep which caters for so many military families. With more Service pupils due to arrive over the next few years, we hope the school will get many years of use out of the pathway. We’re proud to have played a part in improving the health and wellbeing of local children.”
The project was paid for by Aspire Defence Limited, Aspire Defence Capital Works and its subcontractor Knights Brown. Gavin Jones provided landscape services.
The pathway was officially opened by local MP, Claire Perry on Friday 6th October 2017
