An award winning Chelsea Show Garden finds a new home at Chartwell
In 1922 Chartwell was the home of the great British leader and Priminister, Sir Winston Churchill. This was a family home and he spent as much time there as he could until his death.
Whilst relaxing at Chartwell, Winston decided to landscape the grounds surrounding their home. Lady Churchill had attended a Chelsea flower show in 1948 and was inspired by one of Gavin Jones rock feature displays.
After several visits to Chartwell, Gavin Jones and the Churchill’s became good friends consequently Jones installed his Chelsea display without charge.
The work included a swimming pool, two lakes, a water garden and the Chelsea rock garden.
The Rock Garden is enjoyed by the many people who frequent Chartwell to this day.
